La Poste Plans to Buy 10,000 Electric Vehicles

The French Post Office, La Poste, is seeking to place 10,000 electric vehicles in service in the next five years. This week La Poste will invite manufacturers to bid to build the first 500 for delivery in 2008.
"There has never been such a big order (for electric vehicles) in the world," said French Industry Minister Francois Loos in an interview with AFP, referring to the plans for 10,000 electric vehicles.

Here in the UK, it would be good to see the Royal Mail taking note of that La Poste decision.

Two British makers of electric vehicles have recently started winning fleet orders, after a year of trials. Smith ( http://www.smithelectricvehicles.com ) and Modec (http://www.modec.co.uk ) have now sold dozens of electric delivery vans to supermarkets and parcel delivery firms. Smith are expecting TNT Express to order several hundred more.

2007 really does look like a breakthrough year!
